Anakbayan Silicon Valley
Mission
Anakbayan Silicon Valley (ABSV) is a comprehensive youth organization (ages 13-35) that seeks to unite all youth in the struggle for genuine social change and liberation of the Philippines. By educating, organizing, and mobilizing the youth in Silicon Valley, ABSV fights for the rights of Filipinos in America and advances the Philippine struggle for national democracy.

Internship
The following are more specific intern roles:
1) International People's Tribunal (IPT) (http://internationalpeoplestribunal.org/) (1 intern)
Human rights defenders, peace and justice advocates, lawyers, jurists, academics, church people, and political activists have come together to convene the International Peoples Tribunal on Crimes against the Filipino people by President Benigno S. Aquino and the US Government as represented by President Barrack Obama. This tribunal will be held in Washington, D.C. from July 16-18, 2015 at the behest of victims of human rights violations and other crimes committed under the Presidency of Benigno S. Aquino III in the Philippines.
The IPT intern will be participate in various aspects of organizing the conference, including joining (a) national committee(s) and outreaching to organizations and individuals in the local area and region. Primarily, though, this intern will assist in planning and executing fundraising activities and events. Fundraising objectives to be discussed and concretized at the beginning of the internship.
2) Supporting Solidarity Missions and Communities in the Philippines (1 intern)
ABSV is involved in multiple projects supporting typhoon-stricken and/or urban poor populations in the Philippines. These include:
3) Research on West Santa Clara County (1 intern, if applicable)
ABSV, the Pilipino Association of Workers and Immigrants, and other local organizations are planning to expand their organizing work further into the western part of Santa Clara County (Mountain View, Sunnyvale, EPA, Stanford, etc.). However, in order to do this effectively, it is important to properly investigate the conditions of Filipinos--especially workers, youth, and women--and allies in these cities. This intern would help in doing this research. This could include a detailed "map" of West Santa Clara County, with details on where major workplaces, worker and youth hangouts, Filipino-owned businesses, and other topics of interest are located. Research objectives to be discussed and concretized at the beginning of the internship.
Location
Santa Clara County. Majority of meetings and events held in San Jose.
Times
Flexible. Will likely include weeknights and weekends, depending on students' availabilities.

- waging a Santa Clara County-wide campaign known as Project F.L.A.M.E. to confront violence against Filipino youth,
- workshops and educational discussions,
- cultural performances and conscious art,
- exposure trips to the Philippines,
- alliance-building with local and international community organizations,
- actions and campaigns for basic human rights, and
- building and sustaining a transnational youth movement!
Internship
- All interns will work with other groups in the area, including the Pilipino Association of Workers and Immigrants - Silicon Valley (PAWIS), the Disaster Support Network for the Philippines, and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns.
- All interns will participate in Educational Discussions to learn about the social, political, economic, and cultural conditions of the Philippines. This will allow them to better understand the issues facing Filipinos in America and around the world.
- Depending on their skills, all interns can help in publicity work: adding content to websites, creating publicity/outreach materials, etc.

- the Kabit Bisig Kabataan ("Youth Link Arms") Network, a national Filipino American youth and student-led relief network built in response to Typhoon Haiyan and future disasters that organizes solidarity missions to the Philippines;
- the Disaster Support Network for the Philippines, a Santa Clara County-based network of both Filipinos and non-Filipinos that coordinates long-term relief and rehabilitation efforts and solidarity missions to disaster-affected areas; and
- the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns's Adopt a Community Program, which aims to gather resources for basic necessities (e.g. clean drinking water and sustainable agricultural programs) in poor communities in Philippines.
